Important Update for Oregon License Renewal

The Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) has suspended state-level PDU reporting for licenses expiring through June 30, 2029. PDU reporting is being reinstated for licenses expiring on or after July 1, 2029.

What this means in practice:

  • If your license expires on or after July 1, 2029, plan ahead. PDU documentation will be required at renewal.
  • Your district's PEER form workflow remains active throughout the suspension — districts continue to submit PEER forms documenting PDUs.
  • A single 3-credit graduate course = 90 PDUs (per OAR 584-255-0010). One course covers a full Preliminary License renewal (75 PDUs); two courses cover a full Professional License renewal (125 PDUs).
  • Graduate credits remain useful regardless — for district salary lane advancement, district-level PD documentation, and tuition reimbursement where your district offers it.

Common Ways Oregon Teachers Use These Credits

Every district sets its own salary policy and PD documentation rules. Oregon teachers commonly use For Teachers By Teachers graduate credits for one of these three goals:

1

Salary Lane Advancement

Letter-grade graduate transcripts from UMass Global (500-level credits) for district salary lane movement. Portland Public Schools, for example, places teachers on the salary schedule using graduate-level credits earned after degree completion. Salary policies vary district-by-district — confirm with your HR before enrolling.

2

Tuition Reimbursement

Many Portland-metro districts offer tuition reimbursement for graduate-level PD per their collective bargaining agreements. Pre-approval through your district is typically required — check with HR before enrolling. We provide receipts and itemized invoices for reimbursement documentation.

3

District PD Documentation (PEER form)

Even during the state-level reporting suspension, your district's PEER form workflow stays active. Each 3-credit course = 90 PDUs per Oregon's published conversion (OAR 584-255-0010), plus a Certificate of Completion with 45 documented instructional hours — useful for your district's PD records and your IPDP.

Oregon Teacher FAQ

Do I still need to report PDUs to TSPC for license renewal?

If your Oregon license expires through June 30, 2029, TSPC has suspended state-level PDU reporting — you don't report PDUs to the state for that renewal. However, your district's PEER form workflow remains active, and licenses expiring on or after July 1, 2029 will require PDU documentation again. The TSPC Commission voted in February 2025 to reinstate the reporting requirement for licenses expiring on or after July 1, 2029.

Will my Oregon district accept these credits?

Most Oregon districts accept regionally accredited graduate credits for salary lane advancement and PD documentation. UMass Global is regionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission. Salary and PD policies are set district-by-district, so a quick check with your HR before enrolling is always a good move. If your district needs documentation from us, just email info@forteachersbyteachers.org.

Do these courses work for Portland Public Schools salary placement?

PPS places teachers on the professional educator salary schedule using graduate-level credits (500 level and above) earned after degree completion at an accredited college or university, with a passing grade of C or above. UMass Global credits are 500-level and issued with letter grades, which fits PPS's published salary placement requirements. PPS requires official transcripts delivered in a sealed envelope from the issuing university — UMass Global handles transcript delivery on request. Check with PPS HR for current placement details before enrolling.

How many PDUs is one of your courses worth?

Per Oregon Administrative Rule 584-255-0010, one semester hour of college credit equals 30 PDUs. Each For Teachers By Teachers course is 3 graduate semester credits = 90 PDUs. One course covers a full Preliminary License renewal (75 PDUs) with PDUs to spare; two courses cover a full Professional License renewal (125 PDUs). We provide course syllabi and Certificates of Completion (45 documented instructional hours per course) for your district's PEER form submission.

Do I have to pay the $190 transcript fee right away?

No. The university transcript fee is completely optional and can be paid anytime — including after you finish the course. The payment link sits inside your online classroom, ready when you need it. Many teachers wait until their district confirms approval before paying.

What if I enroll and it's not the right fit?

We offer a 7-day refund window. Enroll, log in, preview the course materials, and if it's not what you expected, email us within 7 days for a refund. Full details on our Terms page.
