10. Hawaii State DOE Non-Classroom Teacher Participation
In order to receive PD credits, Hawaii State DOE participants must complete the course with Hawaii State DOE students on a Hawaii State DOE campus. According to the Hawaii State DOE, the expectations and requirements of PDE3 courses are the same for non-classroom teachers as they are for classroom teachers.
11. Hawaii State DOE Participants are responsible for
a. Completing all course requirements, including timelines set by the instructor.
b. Completing a quality LRP that meets the LRP requirements stated in the approved course syllabus and the Learning Results Portfolio (LRP) Success Indicators.
c. Communicating with the instructor and/or sponsor about the course and its requirements. Extenuating circumstances (serious health issues, personal accident or injury of a significant nature, bereavement, victim of crime) will allow for a 60 day extension on portfolio due dates, however it is the participant's responsibility to request this extension in writing (email) and to follow up with the course instructor to ensure that this timeline is met. It is the participant's responsibility to communicate any discrepancy in PDE3 records in a timely fashion (within 60 days of the course end date).
d. Adherence to the HIDOE Code of Conduct, HIDOE procedures and expectations, or Board of Education (BOE) policies including but not limited to Standards of Practice.
e. Reviewing the Guidelines for Approval of Academic/Professional Development Credits for Teacher Reclassification posted in DOE Memos and Notices annually: Teacher Reclasification Memo and Guidelines. Please understand that it is your responsibility to review the reclassification guidelines and procedures prior to enrolling in any course work. Should you have any questions after reading these guidelines you are welcome to call the Teacher Reclassification Unit at (808) 441-8383. Please pay special attention to the three (3) forms that need to be utilized and the timeline that needs to be followed when submitting these forms.
f. In order to be considered for PD credits, participants are responsible for ensuring that they are officially registered for their course/section within their PDE3 account, before their course/section begins. At the conclusion of the course/section, it is each participant's responsibility to ensure that their PDE3 records are correct. If there are any discrepancies in participants' PDE3 records, they must be reported to the course instructor within 60 days of their course/section's end date. The DOE and PDE3 will only consider PDE3 transcript corrections within 60 days of a course/section's end date.
