How the SIQ Path Works

  • ✔️ Take 2 qualifying Hawaiʻi courses
  • ✔️ Earn 3 graduate credits per course
  • ✔️ Apply all 6 credits toward salary advancement, and toward the SIQ six-credit pathway
  • ✔️ 100% online and self-paced
  • ✔️ No live meetings, no busywork

If you were employed by HIDOE during SY 2023–24, your SIQ deadline was the first working day of SY 2026–27 — July 28, 2026. If you were hired after SY 2023–24, you have three years from your date of hire.

Six graduate credits in TESOL-aligned coursework is one of several pathways HIDOE accepts. Two of our courses cover that six credits — while also earning credits you can use for salary advancement. Your school's Office of Talent Management contact can confirm which pathway applies to you and where your record stands.

Hawaiʻi Teacher FAQ

Will Hawaiʻi DOE accept these credits for salary step reclassification?

Yes. HIDOE accepts regionally accredited graduate credits for salary step reclassification, and both of our university partners (UMass Global – WSCUC, CSU Pueblo – HLC) are regionally accredited. Thousands of Hawaiʻi DOE educators have used our credits for reclassification since 2015. After you finish your course, submit your official transcript along with the DOE 200-005 form to Teacher.Reclassification@k12.hi.us.

Are UMass Global and CSU Pueblo accredited?

Yes — both are regionally accredited. UMass Global is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). CSU Pueblo is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Regional accreditation is the tier HIDOE recognizes for graduate coursework on the salary schedule.

Can I use these credits for my SIQ?

Yes — two of our Hawaiʻi courses are designed to count toward both salary step reclassification and the HIDOE Sheltered Instruction Qualification (SIQ). Those two courses are 6 graduate credits, which is one of several pathways HIDOE accepts for the SIQ, and each course is available through CSU Pueblo or UMass Global. Deadlines differ by when you were hired, so check with your Office of Talent Management contact. See our Hawaiʻi SIQ courses page for details.

Do I have to pay the $190 transcript fee right away?

No. With the UMass Global path, the $190 transcript fee (for 3 credits) is completely optional and can be paid anytime — including after you finish the course. The payment link sits inside your online classroom, ready when you need it. With the CSU Pueblo path, everything is bundled into the single $185 payment, so there's no separate transcript fee to worry about later.

How long do I have to finish the course?

All of our Hawaiʻi courses are 100% self-paced, so you can start and finish on your timeline. There are no live meetings, no assignment due dates from us, and no busywork.

What if I enroll and it's not the right fit?

We offer a 7-day refund window. Enroll, log in, preview the course materials, and if it's not what you expected, email us within 7 days for a refund.
