Why are there two separate fees?
Here's the quick breakdown. ASPDP courses involve two simple payments: one to For Teachers By Teachers ($165 per 3-credit course) to access your self-paced online course, and one to NYC DOE ASPDP ($125 per 3-credit course) to register for official credit. Both are standard for every ASPDP-approved course — it's just how the program is set up. Once you've done it once, it's totally straightforward.
Will these credits count toward my salary differential?
Yes — that's exactly what these courses are designed for! ASPDP P-Credit and A+ Credit count toward NYC DOE salary differentials (BA+30, BA+60, MA+30). If you were hired on or after September 1, 2019, you'll need at least 18 A+ credits for a differential; hired between September 1, 2017 and August 31, 2019, you need at least 6 A+ credits. All FTBT ASPDP courses are approved for both A+ and P credit, so they work either way. If you want to double-check your specific situation, HR Connect or Aplus@schools.nyc.gov can help.
Will I get CTLE hours too?
Yes! Each 3-credit course includes 45 CTLE hours — so you're knocking out two requirements at once. CTLE hours count toward NYSED's 100-hour renewal requirement for NYC DOE teachers, guidance counselors, paraprofessionals, and NYS private, parochial, and charter school teachers.
How many credits can I take in one semester?
ASPDP allows up to 12 credits per semester — and that's exactly what the NYC ASPDP 12-Credit Bundle is built for. Four courses, maximum credits, one semester, and $161 in savings. It's the most efficient path to your next salary differential.
